In recent days, video footage has been published on Iranian social media networks in which elderly members of the Bahai minority at a care center in Karaj, holding placards, are calling on Iranian authorities to stop harassment and pressures against them.

The Iranian authorities are trying to close down the Elder Care Center in Karaj that belongs to the elderly Baha'is.

Mohammad Nazari, an Iranian political prisoner being held at Urmia Prison, has suffered a suspected tumor in his stomach because of the effects of a long-term hunger strike; however, the authorities do not allow him to be transferred to hospital.

Iran’s court of appeal condemned 18 civil right activists to prison. According to these sentences, 16 of these activist are each condemned to 91 days of suspended imprisonment for three years. Two other activists were sentenced to 91 days of imprisonment after they didn't object to the verdict. All of them were arrested in November 2015 for peacefully gathering in front of Tehran's Evin prison, and were charged with civil disobedience. They were released on parole.

The Iranian authorities executed a prisoner in Kashan Prison on Wednesday, 3 July, a judicial authority said.

Rouhollah Dehqani, the Kashan's prosecutor’s deputy for criminal affairs, said the victim was sentenced to Qisas (punishment of retribution) on a murder charge.

On Monday, July 1, eight newly converted Iranian Christians were arrested in the southern city of Bushehr at their houses; some of them were members of the same family. Security forces raided and searched their houses and confiscated their Bibles, Christian statues and signs, wooden crosses, paintings, laptops, cellphones, ID cards and credit cards. The children witnessed all of these events as well as the cruelty by security forces in arresting their parents.

Iranian political prisoner Soheil Arabi has released an open letter from jail about his hunger strike titled: “Boycotting the state from inside the prison.”

Arabi is a social activist who has been in prison under a seven-year sentence since 2013 and is currently in the prison of Greater Tehran (Fashafouyeh). In his letter, published on June 27, 2019, Arabi described his hunger strike as a “new move and a sanction” against the regime.

On Tuesday, 2 July, Ali Nejati, member of the laborers syndicate of the Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane Mill in Ahvaz, received his indictment in Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. After their last court session, his dossier along with six others were sent to the revolutionary court of Tehran. The charges against Nejati, in this indictment were “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the government”.

The Iranian government is systematically violating the international bans on torture and other ill-treatment with its targeting of the families of the victims of the 1988 massacre of political prisoners, said Amnesty International on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

Thirty-one years after Iranian authorities secretly forcibly disappeared and executed 30,000 political dissidents, dumping their bodies in unmarked mass graves, the authorities are continuing to torment relatives by not revealing when, how, or why their loved ones were killed and where their remains are buried. The relatives who have fought to find the truth have only been subjected to threats, harassment, intimidation and attacks.
